So, how did Mario do this?Mario sent us this bit of instruction:each clip is shot using raw images. I use the small or the medium raw in case I need to crop inthe picture profile was set to sharp and saturatedthe actual capture is done by holding down the shutter using a remote for 5 minutes (using burst mode)in terms of positioning, obviously anything that is looking into a scene works and def a sturdy tripodfor post, I read everything into Adobe After Effects and in camera raw push up the saturation, the sharpness, clarity and in most cases fill light. In addition I tend to push the blues, reds and greens further. Finally, I add a little bit of lowlight saturationthe clips are done at 12fps as the Canon EOS 5D Mark II only manages to capture 3fps in raw in burst modein terms of size i go for 30% bigger so I can add a ken burns stylefinally masking the sharp areas and lens blur the rest. For the masks, I include all the items that should be sharp in the perspective.the actual movie was done in fcp 7 as I am most familiar with that. Adding a few ken burns effects and doing alignment with the musicfinally a vignette from magic bullet to underline the miniature look

My first attempt at HDR tone mapping timelapse.

We start off with normal timelapse and then go into the 3 and 7 bracket tone mapped HDR timelapses.

I wanted to create a sense of colour and insanity that Las Vegas gives you. All from one view point. My balcony. With that restriction can you do it? Well I did it before in my two previous timelapses...

This was harder in a way as there was no single focal point like in the Sydney Harbour piece or the Space Needle piece.

I made a virtue of the HDR tone mapping with the change of pace in the music and also my use of bookends which I love.

New York City, NY (April 18, 2011) Next Level Pictures in association with Tstop Cinema teamed up with Abel Cine, Kessler Crane, Wide Open Camera, Angenieux, Carl Zeiss, Cooke, Tyler Mounts, and Miller to unveil the worlds first ever camera test using the Sony F3 with S-Log. S-Log isn’t scheduled for official release until late summer 2011 so we are proud to get our hands on the camera and put it through several latitude tests to include helicopter aerials by Vincent Laforet, vibrant Vegas city lights, and skin tone tests of two models in ten different locations throughout Las Vegas at NAB 2011. The crew of twelve had only ten hours with the camera to produce and film the entire project. The purpose of this test is to compare the latitude and image quality of the new S-Log firmware to native EX codec.

Ravi thought he had it all figured out. The night of his proposal to Rekha was set to be perfect. When suddenly things take a wild turn - in the most unexpected way at the most inopportune time. Finding the right words is one thing. Proving it with actions is something else entirely. A string of high profile jewelry store heists has kept authorities baffled. A break leads Police to a pair of suspects: two couples, two well-laid plans. For one, the biggest obstacle will come at the worst possible time.

Putting it all on screen posed an entirely new set of challenges. Although action and romance may appear to be an unlikely pairing, we've had many unique opportunities to explore the ways genre conventions and narrative fiction can enhance documentary storytelling and were excited to take a leap into the action genre with our latest film, "FLAWLESS." The all-DSLR, Canon 5D Mark II production spanned four nights in Los Angeles and included the use of a process trailer and Porsche Cayenne with Gemini crane furnished by CameraCarIndustries.com. Amazingly realistic picture vehicles were provided by PictureCarWarehouse.net. Shooting a police chase on-location with world class stunt drivers under the supervision of stunt coordinator Gianni Biasetti was one of many highlights, as was staging a full-blown heist of the gorgeous StuartMoore.com in Fashion Island.

A horror-thriller set on 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month and concerning a entity from another world that enters the earthly realm through Heaven's 11th gate. 11-11-11 is both written and directed by American filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman, of Saw II, III & IV, Repo! The Genetic Opera and Mother's Day, still due out later this year. Bousman and Epic Pictures Group only announced the project last August, but pulled it together and are currently shooting in Spain. Though we don't know if this has a distributor yet, as expected, it will be arriving in theaters on November 11th, 2011, as in 11-11-11 itself. How creepy! Look any good?

This is a single take steadicam shot during a photographic workshop at the Elk's Tower in Sacramento. The workshop put on by Mark Behrens and Lookpw titled "Gun's Gut's and Glory" featured 22 photographers and 20 models. This shot actually came together completely unplanned, when most of the photographers and models had gathered into one room. It started out as a "wouldn't it be cool" and turned into an "alright everybody, listen up" in about 30 seconds. This shot stands completely uncut and is a good example of "speed ramping" for maximum effect.

It took us about 5 minutes to bring everyone up to speed, place people around the room, and figure out a rough path. The original shot is a little over two minutes long. It's obviously really hard to get 40 people to hold still for that long, so a lot of the sped up sections hide some of the movement. The other sped up and slowed down parts were just to emphasize it's epic awesomeness. Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

It's the Iron Man of documentaries! Sony Classics has debuted the trailer on Yahoo for filmmaker Morgan Spurlock's latest documentary, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, which explores product placement. As you've probably already heard, the documentary is very "meta", as the film was entirely funded by product placement, while showing us the inside process of all his meetings and placement deals. I saw it at Sundance and absolutely loved it, will be one of my favorite docs for years, so I highly suggest checking it out. This is a great introduction and I can't wait to see it again. And yes, all of those products (collectible cups!) do exist.

Timo arnall, Jørn Knutsen e Einar Sneve Martinussen, tre giovani designer norvegesi, hanno compiuto a Oslo una piccola magia tecnologica: rendere visibili le reti wi fi che attraversano la città. Per farlo il trio ha percorso le strade di notte con un'asse di quattro metri dotata di antenna wireless e di una serie di led che lampeggiando indicavano la presenza (e l'intensità) del segnale. Il movimento di questa speciale barra è stato quindi seguito da una fotocamera con la tecnica del light painting, vale a dire scattando foto a lunga esposizione. In questo modo le onde radio provenienti dai dispositivi wireless si sono in pratica materializzate, dando finalmente un'idea grafica di come queste occupano e attraversano il contesto urbano

Il SAT, associazione che riunisce gli operatori di Commedia dell’Arte, dal 2010 riconosciuta dall’UNESCO nella lista degli organismi non governativi che si occupano di Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale, con il progetto incommedia.it ha proclamato la Giornata della Commedia dell'Arte a supporto della candidatura di questa tradizione alla lista della Convenzione sul "Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale" dell'UNESCO. Da celebrarsi ogni anno il 25 febbraio dalla comunità internazionale dei portatori della tradizione della Commedia dell'Arte, la Giornata intende ricordare il giorno, nel 1545, in cui nacque, legalmente costituita con atto notarile, la prima compagnia di comici di professione.

La Commedia dell'Arte cambia casa?

"Io credo, che la Commedia dell'Arte rivissuta e rinata in Italia
rimetterebbe in crisi tutto. Rimetterebbe in crisi non solo la regia, non
solo il grande attore codificato ma l'istituzione stessa teatrale. Io credo,
che una certa paura della Commedia dell'Arte la si abbia. Sarebbe ora di
eliminare la cattiva Commedia dell'Arte della politica e far rinascere
quella buona."

Per il secondo anno consecutivo, uno degli obiettivi che la
associazione SAT si è prefissa sta per essere raggiunto.
La Giornata della Commedia dell'Arte sara' celebrata il 25 febbraio, con il
patrocinio della Commissione Italiana Unesco e del Centro Italiano dell'ITI
(Istituto Internazionale del Teatro) nei sei continenti, con 62 eventi
(www.commediadellarteday.org/eventi), il messaggio celebrativo del Prof.
Roberto Tessari e la presenza a Torino di Mimmo Cuticchio, Roberto Tessari e
gran parte dei costruttori di maschere europei, riuniti per la prima volta
in un convegno e una mostra.

E'e rimarrà una buona notizia, nonostante la politica culturale di questo
nostro Paese non perda occasione per mortificare gli sforzi di chi come noi
s’impegnano quotidianamente per dare senso e dignità ad un’arte e un
mestiere che vanno assumendo gradatamente il carattere di una missione, per
non dire di un vero e proprio atto di fede.
Nel nostro specifico, oltre alle considerazioni in merito alla negazione del
contributo da parte della Regione Piemonte, avvenuto a soli 20 giorni
dall'evento Torinese, epicentro della Giornata mondiale della Commedia
dell'Arte, in pieno corso d'opera e dopo quasi un anno di preparazione, c'e'
da denunciare un diffuso atteggiamento di disinteresse verso la tradizione
della Commedia dell'Arte a tutti i livelli istituzionali, che spesso
degenera in esclusione o in un vero e proprio disprezzo. Forse questo senso
di dileggio deriva dal timore verso una tradizione scomoda perche'
eccessivamente identitaria, per la sua portata culturale, viva e attuale e
perciò non rinchiudibile in evento folklorico o museale o semplice
intrattenimento.
Non passa inosservato quanto questa ingratitudine culturale possa stridere
in un panorama italiano oggi piu' che mai concentrato attorno alle
celebrazioni della sua unita' e identita' nazionale.

Ci riferiamo, tra l'altro, alla domanda di candidatura della Commedia
dell'Arte alla lista del patrimonio immateriale UNESCO, presentata dal SAT
nel 2008 e a cui a tutt'oggi non è stata data risposta chiara ed esauriente
nonostante la continua richiesta di confronto da parte della associazione
SAT.

Forse e' giunto per la Commedia dell'Arte, che allora come oggi parla una
lingua piu' europea che nazionalista, il momento per cambiare casa?

Lazio: nasce l'Ente regionale Cinema

Le premesse per ora sono buone, se la presidente della Regione Lazio Renata Polverini e l'assessore alla Cultura, Arte e Sport Fabiana Santini portano a casa il consenso ampio della categorie e delle associazioni sulla proposta di legge quadro regionale per il cinema e l'audiovisivo presentata alla Casa del Cinema davanti a una platea affollatissima, cui sono subito seguiti il confronto e il dibattito coordinati da Laura Delli Colli. Ha dato i suoi frutti il confronto con gli operatori dell'audiovisivo laziale e nazionale svolto nella fase preliminare di elaborazione di una legge che ha come priorità l'esigenza di razionalizzare e semplificare l'attuale sistema regionale del cinema e dell'audiovisivo, "con il taglio di 45 poltrone", ricorda la Polverini.

"Finora non c'era una strategia univoca, assente una programmazione strategica delle ingenti risorse, 25 milioni all'anno e soprattutto mancava una cabina di regia", sottolinea l'assessore Santini. Viene così istituito l'Ente regionale per il cinema e dell'audiovisivo cui faranno capo: Fondazione Cinema per Roma, Sviluppo Lazio, FiLas, UnionFidi Lazio, Bic Lazio, il gestore 'Filiera produttiva regionale audiovisivo' (fondi Fesr) e il gestore 'Sovvenzione globale audiovisivo' (fondi Fse), il Polo formativo integrato cinema e audiovisivo (Ats). Viene soppresso il Carl e si prevede il recesso della Regione dalla fondazioni Roma&Lazio Film Commission - sarà l'Ente a svolgere le sue funzioni - e Roberto Rossellini, oltre alla possibilità di recedere da altre fondazioni partecipate dalla Regione.

L'Ente opererà attraverso il Programma operativo annuale che prevederà innanzitutto sovvenzioni, contributi, agevolazioni, e sussidi alle imprese di produzione cinematografica e audiovisiva aventi sede legale nel Lazio, ai soggetti privati che promuovono la cultura cinematografica, che sostengono le opere prime e seconde per la scoperta di nuovi talenti, di giovani produttori residenti nel Lazio che sviluppino sul territorio regionale produzioni cinematografiche e audiovisive.
Le risorse verranno da un Fondo regionale alimentato non solo con uno stanziamento annualmente definito ma anche da altri fondi regionali istituiti a sostegno delle imprese del Lazio.
Verranno inoltre istituiti presso l'Ente sia l'Osservatorio regionale, una struttura consultiva di supporto grazie anche alla realizzazione di un Rapporto annuale; sia un Tavolo regionale con compiti di formulare proposte e pareri.
L'assessore Santini s'impegna perché la legge diventi operativa prima dell'estate, e assicura che avrà decorrenza retroattiva, da gennaio, e e che saranno disponibili 15 milioni per le sole attività produttive.
E la presidente Polverini smentisce invece l'intenzione della Regione di abbandonare il Festival del film di Roma e quello della Fiction, "anzi investiremo di più e meglio, ma con l'intento che questi appuntamenti promuovano tutto l'anno il marketing del prodotto".

L'adesione convinta viene da diversi soggetti del mondo del cinema, con alcuni suggerimenti. A cominciare dal presidente produttori Anica Riccardo Tozzi, che critica la frammentazione di iniziative da parte della precedente giunta regionale di centrosinistra , "un'idea vecchia di intervento sul territorio" - e auspica la nascita di una struttura centrale, indispensabile per la crescita industriale . Ipotesi accolta con convinzione dal dg Cinema del MiBAC Nicola Borrelli. E Tozzi insiste poi sulla centralità delle sale dei centri urbani, le uniche che garantiscono la varietà dell'offerta, e sul rilancio degli studios di Cinecittà. Anche Valter Casini, AD di Circuito Cinema, saluta con favore "una normativa chiara e semplice" e chiede di attenzione per le sale minori.

Andrea Purgatori, a nome dei 100autori, conviene che la giunta Polverini "ha fatto quello che il governo nazionale non è stato capace di fare, cioè una legge di sistema e un Centro nazionale di cinema, tranne un Tax credit, prorogato in modo ridicolo per soli 6 mesi. Questa legge regionale andrà a regime nel 2012, anticipiamo i tempi e comunque fondamentale è l'istituzione del Tavolo regionale". Infine Purgatori suggerisce un prelievo di scopo regionale per reperire fondi certi, oltre a riportare i set nel Lazio. A questo proposito la regista Cinzia Th Torrini propone il tax credit regionale e di abbattere con contributi i costi delle troupe.

Roberto Perpignani, in rappresentanza della Fidac che riunisce le associazioni professionali del settore, si esprime a favore della legge ma chiede anche che continui il confronto da ora fino alla sua applicazione.
Dal produttore Sandro Silvestri la preoccupazione sulla fase di transizione, con produzioni che hanno fatto domanda con le vecchie norme, ma anche la speranza che il neonato Ente funzioni come biglietto da visita per un futuro Centro nazionale.
Dal dg del ministero dello Sviluppo economico Alberto Versace viene da un lato l'auspicio che il tax credit abbia una durata nel tempo anche con una sua applicazione regionale, dall'altro l'invito defiscalizzare gli interventi di promozione dell'audiovisivo.

Per Nino Russo vicepresidente dell'Anac le premesse da cui parte la legge sono sbagliate, "ancora una volta è l'economicismo a prendere il sopravvento, del resto si è parlato sempre di industria e quasi mai di cultura". Bruno Torri, presidente del Sindacato critici, chiede che la legge guardi con attenzione a quel cinema di qualità, da La bocca del lupo a Le quattro volte, che con fatica trova sale per essere programmato.
E a chi chiede impegno anche nella formazione dei nuovi mestieri e professionalità, la presidente Polverini anticipa che "stiamo lavorando a un progetto e a un luogo che diventi simbolo di questo settore".

Bif&st: premiati "20 sigarette" e "Le quattro volte"

BARI - Il film 20 sigarette di Aureliano Amadei, distribuito da Cinecittà Luce e tratto dal romanzo dello stesso regista ispirato alla sua tragica esperienza durante la strage di Nassiriya, di cui è superstite, ha vinto il Premio Francesco Laudadio-Opera Prima al Bif&st-Bari International Film&tv Festival.
Questa la motivazione del premio andato a 20 sigarette: "Per essere riuscito a raccontare, attraverso una tragedia personale le sofferenza di un intero popolo. Per essere riuscito a dimostrare, senza mai cadere nè nella retorica nè negli slogan vuoti, che un bambino ucciso in una guerra, qualsiasi guerra, altro non è che un nostro figlio che ingiustamente perdiamo. Per essere riuscito a dare un nome, un volto ed una dignità umana a coloro che persero la vita durante il compimento dei loro doveri, persone che rischiavano di rimanere solo come dei semplici numeri di morti".

Le quattro volte di Michelangelo Frammartino, distribuito sempre da Cinecittà Luce, ha conquistato due riconoscimenti: il Premio Roberto Perpignani per il miglior montatore assegnato dalla Giuria internazionale a Benni Atria e Maurizio Grillo; il Premio Franco Cristaldi per il produttore del miglior film assegnato dalla Giuria del pubblico, composta da 50 spettatori. I produttori Gregorio Paonessa e Marta Donzelli ritirano il premio, dato con la seguente motivazione: "Le quattro volte di Michelangelo Frammartino rappresenta un magnifico ed emozionante cantico alla terra. 4 volte, che possono essere intese banalmente come 4 episodi o 4 stagioni, sono invece la straordinaria rappresentazione dei 4 regni: da quello umano a quello animale, dal vegetale al minerale".

A Mine vaganti di Ferzan Ozpetek vanno 4 dei premi assegnati dalla Giuria internazionale: Premio Mario Monicelli per la migliore regia, Premio Suso Cecchi D'Amico per la migliore sceneggiatura e Premio Tonino Guerra per il miglior soggetto a Ferzan Ozpetek e Ivan Cotroneo, Premio Anna Magnani per la migliore attrice protagonista a Nicole Grimaudo. Inoltre il film riceve il Premio Alida Valli per migliore attrice non protagonista a Ilaria Occhini, assegnato dalla Giuria del pubblico.

A Una sconfinata giovinezza di Pupi Avati vanno il Premio Piero Tosi per il miglior costumista a Stefania Consaga e Maria Fassari, il Premio Dante Ferretti per il miglior scenografo a Giuliano Pennuti.

Il Premio Vittorio Gassman per il miglior attore protagonista va a Elio Germano per La nostra vita di Daniele Luchetti.
Il Premio Ennio Morricone per il miglior compositore delle musiche a Carlo Virzì per La prima cosa bella di Paolo Virzì.
Il Premio Giuseppe Rotunno per il miglior direttore della fotografia a Marco Sgorbati e Gian Paolo Conti per Sorelle mai di Marco Bellocchio.
Il Premio Alberto Sordi per il migliore attore non protagonista, assegnato dalla Giuria del pubblico, va a Giuseppe Battiston per La passione di Carlo Mazzacurati.

Nella rassegna competitiva ItaliaFilmFest/Documentari, curata da Maurizio Di Rienzo, il Premio Documentario-Vittorio De Seta è andato invece a E' stato morto un ragazzo di Filippo Vendemmiati, sulla drammatica morte del giovane Federico Aldrovandi.

Di seguito il testo della motivazione della giuria del pubblico, composta da 30 spettatori e presieduta dalla documentarista Maite Carpio, che ha premiato E' stato morto un ragazzo: "Per la esauriente e straordinaria ricostruzione che il documentario realizza di un fatto di cronaca sconvolgente. Per aver ridato ai fatti, grazie alla capacità narrativa e alla ricerca delle immagini, la complessità e la profondità umana che il caso meritava. Per l'innegabile valore artistico e documentaristico dell'opera. Infine, per il valore sociale di un documentario che con passione e tenacia, racconta la storia di una ingiustizia, sperando che questa denuncia possa evitare in futuro altri casi come questo".

NEW YORK - Rupert Murdoch, magnate mondiale dei media, editore di quotidiani come il Wall Street Journal, il New York Post, i britannici Times e Sun, non poteva rimandare oltre lo sbarco su iPad. E, per lanciare sulla nuova piattaforma il The Daily, il primo quotidiano esclusivamente concepito per il tablet della Apple, il numero uno di News Corporation ci ha messo la faccia in prima persona, al Guggenheim di New York.
Murdoch ha presentato il primo numero di The Daily, studiato assieme alla casa di Cupertino, venduto in abbonamento per 99 centesimi di dollaro a settimana, 39,99 dollari l'anno. "Meno di 14 centesimi al giorno", sottolinea. Le caratteristiche del nuovo prodotto vengono illustrate dal responsabile digitale della News Corp, John Miller, insistendo sulla qualità della navigazione, veloce e agile, oltre che sullo spazio dato alla fotografia. Una scelta che non stupisce visto che il mezzo esalta le immagini.
Vuota la sedia di Steve Jobs, il numero uno di Apple di nuovo a riposo per malattia 1 che Murdoch ha ringraziato personalmente per il suo impegno nell'iniziativa. A rappresentare la casa di Cupertino c'era Eddy Cue, vicepresidente Apple per i servizi internet.
"I nuovi tempi richiedono un nuovo giornalismo" ha esordito Murdoch, puntando nel suo intervento sull'affidabilità
di un quotidiano tradizionale, forte di 100 giornalisti e di un investimento da 30 milioni di dollari, ma che si "sfoglia" esclusivamente online perché "non c'è carta, nessuna tipografia da milioni di dollari, nessun camion" per portare le copie in edicola.
Il target di The Daily, spiega Murdoch, è "il sempre più ampio segmento della popolazione istruita e sofisticata, che non legge un quotidiano ma che allo stesso tempo usa i media. Gente che si aspetta contenuti tagliati su misura ai loro specifici interessi consultabili ovunque e quando vogliono". Semplice quantificare quel target, anche se, stavolta, sulla "carta".
Presentato da Jobs il 27 gennaio 2010 e lanciato sul mercato americano nell'aprile successivo, in un solo mese iPad è stato venduto in ben un milione di esemplari. Ad oggi sono 14,8 milioni gli iPad piazzati e Murdoch prevede che entro il 2012 saranno 50 milioni. Contando soprattutto sull'eccitazione per l'arrivo, ad aprile, della nuova versione, iPad2, dotata di schermo con maggiore risoluzione grafica e due telecamere, una anteriore per le videochiamate e una sul retro del tablet per foto e filmati.
Un bacino d'utenza potenzialmente vastissimo. Se anche una frazione di questa platea vorrà essere aggiornata in modo innovativo ed interattivo, è la riflessione di Murdoch, non potrà che scegliere The Daily. "Il successo di iPad ci ha imposto di reinventare il nostro lavoro - conclude Murdoch - e io sono convinto che nei tablet ci sia spazio per un nuova voce, fresca e robusta".

Molto interessante questo video che vi proponiamo oggi soprattutto dal punto di vista tecnologico che ha poi garantito il risultato finale. Proprio gli autori ci dicono “Non sono state utilizzate né videocamere o luci. Solo due tecnologie per catturare le immagini in 3d: Geometric Informatics e Velodyne LIDAR. Il sistema di scansione di Geometric Informatics riesce a catturare le immagini nei particolari mentre Velodyne che usa un sistema di laser multipli cattura aree più grandi perfino paesaggi. Per questo video 64 laser ruotando hanno catturato a 360 gradi tutte le scene esterne”.

David Torno of Ghost Town Media explains:

For Waiting For The End (WFTE), Brandon had tweaked and played with Form for a few days to develope a look which was based on some graphics we had made for the concert tour a few weeks prior. Basically running the footage through Form three different times to create a layered effect. The first layer being the main particles which held most of the fidelity of the image that shows and then two more passes to create floating yet somehow still attached brighter particle accents. All of these were based off of luma values from the source footage and audio reaction to different audio stems of the song. Various color grading was placed on top of that and then a focal depth plane was added and radomized to throw the focus in and out of the Form particle field just to give it more depth.

Once this entire pass was done, all of the artists sat down to watch it and to start picking it apart for weaker shots that either didn't work as is and needed more impact and also had to find spots for the director's creative notes that involved the 3D enhancements and geometric shapes/lines. A lot of 3D object tracking was done with Syntheyes to allow us to attach various 3D elements directly onto the band members, stuff like crazy polygon shapes flying of Mike Shinodas back, skull sections that are diconnected yet move with Chesters head, and various other geometric shapes that extrude or move with the shot.

Openframeworks is a c++ library designed to assist the creative process by providing a simple and intuitive framework for experimentation.
The library is designed to work as a general purpose glue, and wraps together several commonly used libraries under a tidy interface: openGL for graphics, rtAudio for audio input and output, freeType for fonts,freeImage for image input and output, quicktime for video playing and sequence grabbing.
The code is written to be both cross platform (PC, Mac, Linux, iPhone) and cross compiler. The API is designed to be minimal and easy to grasp. There are very few classes, and inside of those classes, there are very few functions. The code has been implemented so that within the classes there are minimal cross-referening, making it quite easy to rip out and reuse, if you need, or to extend.
Simply put, openFrameworks is a tool that makes it much easier to make things via code. We find it super useful, and we hope you do too.

La indossano in Afghanistan le donne protagoniste di «Niqab» (che in afghano significa «maschera»), un reality show della televisione di Kabul in onda in questi giorni. La maschera, il «niqab», protegge le donne mentre liberano il loro animo raccontando le umiliazioni subite. Sullo schermo compaiono figlie e mogli, sorelle e madri. Che raccontano di abusi e stupri. E denunciano di essere state comprate e vendute come bestie.

«Avevo così tanti sogni per la mia vita, ma non appena l’ho visto sono scomparsi tutti», racconta Saraya. Che ricorda così il momento in cui suo padre la obbligò, a 15 anni, a sposare un noto stupratore di 58 anni e con diversi precedenti penali.

La trasmissione è stata ideata dal regista Sami Mahdi, di 28 anni. Che spiega: «Non sono sicuro di riuscire a fare qualcosa per le vittime: penso siano destinate a subire in eterno. Ma possiamo usare le esperienze di queste persone come esempi da mostrare alla gente. E credo che ciò possa produrre qualche cambiamento nella vita delle donne. Sono anche convinto che ciò possa cambiare la mentalità degli uomini».

La “regina della performance” presenterà dal vivo, intervistata dal critico d’arte Renato Barilli, il suo ultimo lavoro, Seven Easy Pieces, un film realizzato per il Guggenheim di New York che ha già conquistato i più importanti festival in Israele, Polonia, Australia, Canada, Germania, Giappone, e ora per la prima volta in Italia alla presenza della Abramovic, in cui l’artista reinterpreta cinque celebri performances storiche compiute da Vito Acconci, Jospeh Beuys, Valie Export, Gina Pane, Bruce Nauman, più altre due da lei stessa realizzate.
Seven Easy Pieces, della durata di 95 minuti, sarà proiettato in replica il giorno seguente, sabato 29 gennaio, alle ore 20 e domenica 30 alle ore 14, presso il Cinema Lumière (via Azzo Gardino 65) della Cineteca di Bologna, partner dell’iniziativa.
L’evento è organizzato da Renato Barilli, per anni docente al Dams, affiancato dal gruppo di ricercatori del Dipartimento delle Arti Visive (Alessandra Borgogelli, Silvia Grandi, Paolo Granata). L’iniziativa si svolge con il supporto della Galleria Lia Rumma di Milano e grazie ai contributi UniboCultura, Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna e Illy.
L’ingresso alla serata di venerdì 28 nell’Aula Magna di Santa Lucia è gratuito ad inviti, che si potranno ritirare (al massimo due a persona) presso il l’Urp dell’Università di Bologna a partire da mercoledì 26 gennaio 2011, ore 10-13. L’ingresso alle repliche di sabato 29 ore 20 e domenica 30 ore 14 presso il Cinema Lumière è gratuito con tessera FICC.

Step 1: Research
DSLR stands for digital single lens reflex. DSLR cameras use a mirror to reflect the image from the lens to the viewfinder, behind the mirror is a sensor. The sensor is what takes that light and interprets it as a electronic signal that shows up on your camera's screen. It's more complicated than that, but I don't want to hurt your brain before we even get this lesson started!

The larger the sensor, the better your camera will be in low light, and the larger your field of view will be. Large sensor, or full-frame cameras, are more expensive than cameras with cropped sensors.

Every DSLR camera has pros and cons. To find the right camera for you, you’ll need to research all the features that come with the camera and look around online or on Vimeo for example footage. Vimeo has entire Groups dedicated to many different types of cameras like the 5D Mark II, EOS 7D, Nikon D90 and a catch-all DSLR Cinema Group.

Una notizia bomba per gli appassionati (e sono tantissimi) del cinema di Stanley Kubrick, durante un evento realizzato dalla Warner Bros a Toronto, Douglas Trumbull e David Larson hanno confermato che sarebbero stati ritrovati 17 minuti di materiale editato direttamente da Kubrick e successivamente non utilizzati per 2001: Odissea nello spazio, che erano stati conservati in un magazzino del Kansas.
Il film infatti dura ufficialmente 141 minuti, ma è noto che alla premier è stata presentata una copia di 160 minuti, nessuno sapeva dove fossero finiti i tagli effettuati dallo stesso Kubrick. Trumbull ha dichiarato che il materiale ritrovato è in ottime condizioni, ma non è sicuro di quello che sarà il suo futuro.
Secondo il sito IMDB, le scene tagliate sarebbero:
* Alcuni tagli dall’incipit Dawn of Man, una sequenza in cui la scimmia prova a usare l’osso come attrezzo di lavoro.
* Alcune riprese di Frank Poole mentre corre nella centrifuga.

Powerful plug-ins aren’t exactly news — Twixtor and Trapcode Particular have been around for years. But it can be inspirational to see what kind of over-the-top visuals can be cooked up by an imaginative videographer with an inexpensive camera and a lot of desktop tools at their disposal.
That’s the case with this clip, uploaded a couple of weeks ago to Vimeo by Oton Bacar and viewed almost 200,000 times. He dusted off some BMX footage shot months ago with the Canon EOS 7D (presumably at 720p/60), simulated a super-slo-mo effect in Adobe After Effects with RE:Vision’s Twixtor plug-in, and topped it off with raindrop particles created with Red Giant Software’s Particular 2 plug-in and comped into the shot to look like part of the slow-motion image capture. Don’t miss the sky replacement, with time-lapse footage of clouds rolling through the background mixed into the frames.

PREMESSA
Un workshop sulle tematiche del video mapping e audio interaction offerto da Il Pagliaio con Quiet ensemble e Fabio Sestili. Il corso fornira’ ai partecipanti una base tecnica che permetta loro di sviluppare tecniche per la relazione real-time tra immagine / suono / ambiente.
Nello specifico durante il ciclo di lezioni saranno mostrate le moderne tecniche di videomapping, affrontando l’intero iter creativo, dall’ideazione dell’installazione all’applicazione delle tecniche interattive.
Verranno studiate le diverse modalita’ di realizzazione di ambienti sensibili e come diversi input fisici e digitali possono creare o modificare immagini, suoni o luci.

SVILUPPO
Il workshop sara’ suddiviso in 4 giornate di 6 ore ciascuna (3 ore isadora + 3 ore ableton Live), di cui l’ultima sara’ interamente dedicata all’ideazione e alla messa in scena dei progetti ideati dagli allievi.
Le prime tre giornate saranno dedicate allo studio dei software. Si partira’ dai concetti base, al fine di prendere familiarita’ con il software, per poi mostrare alcuni degli strumenti piu’ creativi e divertenti che vengono messi a disposizione nel programma.
Il quarto giorno sara’ dedicato alla realizzazione di un progetto per poi presentarlo domenica 12 dicembre durante la giornata melting, evento dedicato alla presentazione di diverse installazioni e performance di diversi artisti.
Verranno esaminati i principi base per la realizzazione di una performance di videomapping, ma anche come rendere quest’ultima interattiva a diversi stimoli come il movimento di una persona o il suono di uno strumento musicale, pertanto gli allievi sono invitati di portare al workshop tutta la strumentazione con la quale vogliono sperimentare
(controller midi, telecamere joystick wii, ecc).

The extraordinary grace of the slow-moving Taiji gestures amid the rush of a river of people hurtling themselves toward their destination: this is New York. The spiritual practice of Taiji Quan, an ancient Taoist sacred dance is filmed on the ordinary, pedestrian thoroughfare of 23rd Street in New York City, accentuating the contrast of the sacred and the profane. The film took three years to complete as the Taiji movements commenced at the East River on the eastside of Manhattan and gradually progressed with the seasons along 23rd Street until reaching the Hudson River on the westside. Metaphorically 23rd Street becomes the Tao (or path) for the practitioner of this Taoist moving form.

Vu and I were at Cine Gear 2010 at The Studios at Paramount and were browsing the expo when we spotted a red epic camera. We could not hold back and had to ask to play with it. If we had more time with the red epic we would have loved to make a longer video showing you the production feature set… It would have also been nice to get some more detailed video footage of the red epic or better yet some real test video from the red epic. Now that would have been great to get awesome test footage from the red epic, even if it was a pre production red epic…

Ok, so some new goals will be to get some real test footage from a an epic camera and then make a red epic demo video.

Ologrammi in diretta E' l'era della telepresenza

Negli Stati Uniti sono stati creati dei video olografici in tempo reale. Grazie a una tecnologia si basa su polimeri con particolari proprietà ottiche. Si aprono le porte di un nuovo mondo a tre dimensioni. Con un ampio ventaglio di applicazioni.
Il robottino R2D2 richiamò l'attenzione di Luke Skywalker e Obi-wan Kenobi e fece partire il video-messaggio registrato dalla Principessa Leila per chiedere aiuto. Guerre stellari, anno 1977: fu questo l'esordio cinematografico dell'ologramma, ovvero la ricostruzione tridimensionale di un oggetto visibile a occhio nudo e dalle sembianze del tutto verosimili. A tradurre la fantascienza in realtà sono stati alcuni ricercatori della University of Arizona, che per la prima volta hanno creato un sistema olografico capace di trasmettere immagini in 3D in tempo (quasi) reale. La tecnologia apre le porte a un'esperienza completamente nuova di interazione a distanza: la videoconferenza olografica, versione hi-tech dell'appello di Leila. Per riuscire in questa scoperta, pubblicata sull'ultimo numero di Nature, il gruppo di ricerca guidato da Nasser Peyghambarian ha messo insieme le caratteristiche di un nuovo polimero che fa da schermo e un sistema di registrazione ed elaborazione delle immagini basato su ben 16 telecamere.

In cerca della dinamicità. La possibilità di generare attraverso il computer ologrammi di oggetti statici era già stata mostrata oltre quarant'anni fa, ma da allora nessuno era riuscito nel passaggio da immagini ferme a ricostruzioni dinamiche. La quantità di informazioni da gestire, infatti, era così grande da impedire una rappresentazione video in tempo reale. Dopo molti approcci, un primo passo in avanti era stato raggiunto dallo stesso gruppo di Peyghambarian nel 2008, grazie allo studio dei cristalli inorganici fotorefrattivi (capaci cioè di cambiare localmente la rifrazione luminosa se stimolati con un laser in modo da creare immagini realistiche). Allora i ricercatori avevano sviluppato uno schermo olografico monocromatico e in grado di aggiornare l'istantanea di un oggetto ogni quattro minuti: un risultato notevole, ma ancora lontano da una rappresentazione dinamica.

Lo schermo olografico. Ora il team di Scienze Ottiche dell'Università dell'Arizona ha sviluppato un apparecchio composto da un innovativo polimero fotorefrattivo capace di rappresentare video policromatici alla velocità di un fotogramma ogni due secondi: una prestazione che gli autori definiscono "quasi a tempo reale". Diversamente da un normale monitor, il polimero fotorefrattivo non è formato da pixel, bensì da "hogel" (elementi olografici, dall'inglese HOloGraphic ELement). "Questi elementi - spiegano i ricercatori - differiscono dai primi poiché contengono non solo informazioni punto per punto di luminosità e colore, ma anche i dati tridimensionali per ogni prospettiva dell'osservatore".

Gli hogel del monitor, dunque, vengono attivati grazie a impulsi laser della durata di sei miliardesimi di secondo e rimangono accesi per diversi minuti, a meno di un nuovo segnale laser: in questo modo lo schermo riesce a rappresentare sia oggetti in movimento, sia immagini statiche con una tridimensionalità pressoché reale. "Gli hogel permettono di avere una sensazione di completa parallasse", precisano gli autori. "Attraverso il nostro monitor è possibile osservare l'oggetto da diverse prospettive, avendo una sensazione molto più realistica rispetto a quella delle altre tecnologie tridimensionali".

La telepresenza in tre dimensioni. Oltre a sviluppare il monitor olografico, gli studiosi hanno dimostrato come la tecnologia non necessiti di incredibili processori e possa anzi essere facilmente implementata per trasmettere immagini 3D anche tra luoghi distanti, sfruttando una normale connessione a internet. "La grande novità del nostro sistema è di consentire la telepresenza olografica, ovvero la possibilità di registrare immagini tridimensionali che possano essere viste in ogni parte del mondo in tempo reale", spiega Peyghambarian. "Basta avere a un'estremità delle telecamere che registrano, una connessione con fibra ottica e uno dei nostri schermi dall'altra parte". Per dimostrare l'efficienza della telepresenza, i ricercatori hanno usato un sistema di registrazione basato su sedici telecamere, un computer da tavolo che processa le immagini e le trasmette via internet - sfruttando solo il dieci percento della banda disponibile - e il meccanismo di attivazione degli hogel sul monitor finale.

Un'esperienza tutta nuova. Gli scenari aperti da questa scoperta toccano diversi campi, tutti però accomunati da un unico punto: un'esperienza tridimensionale perfettamente reale. Come sottolineano gli autori, "lo strumento potrebbe rivelarsi molto utile per la telemedicina: i neurochirurghi, infatti, potrebbero operare al cervello avendo sotto gli occhi una chiara rappresentazione tridimensionale della situazione del paziente". Oltre alle applicazioni in campo medico, gli ologrammi "in diretta" fanno intuire forme di interazione completamente nuove, arricchite dalla loro somiglianza al reale: dalla semplice video-chiamata alla navigazione di mappe e cartine, le esperienze a distanza potrebbero presto acquisire quel senso di profondità che fa scattare la voglia di "allungare la mano". Allora sì che la fantascienza diventerà davvero pane quotidiano.
